This is a very informative post. Basically for people starting out on the website development scene should be fine with shared hosting, and if their sites ever get large, they can move on to vps or dedicated. I have been looking at moving over to dedicated but have been debating with managed and unmanaged, this post should help make the decision easier.

@Sid: A VPS will definitely be better (in most cases) than a shared hosting except if the VPS is so crappy :)
You shouldn't worry about Plesk. It's pretty much the same as cPanel.
Adding your site to your VPS is as easy as re-uploading through FTP and putting back the DB backup...
If you have no idea of administration then managed hosting is the way just to be sure you won't have to do much with administering.
Still, if you want i can help you out with anything. Just let me know ;)

Very informative.. some points were quite technical because of my limited knowledge but I still assume managed vps will be good for me?

I have made a lot of research on best vps hosting and I am not sure if inexpensive VPS can handle the traffic of the blog (blogote)..

Got a recommendation to make use of Grid service/dedicated by Media temple, the cost looks reasonable but recently they were down for 15+ hours :(

And even if I get those service I am not at all sure if I will be able to understand the plesk interface quite easily (Never tried, hope it is same as cpanel)..

I have made a decision to get into VPS 2 months ago but still unable to find any good reliable vps hosting...

And how about adding a new website on VPS, is it easy?

That's just it. I have double the plugins on my other blogs than on the ones that are causing the problem. Because I have deactivated so many plugins the blogs are now loading fairly quickly but they are still using too much CPU. It's starting to really piss me off.

@Sire: Maybe that is for your own good. Why not compare which plugins you have on the slow one that you don't have on the fast one? I don't think it's a problem with the configuration of the server.... It must be some sort of resources bottleneck...

Fantastic post stratos, and I am not surprised that I was not the first person to stumble it. I am still having some problems resolve the CPU issue that I have been having. What is weird is that I have more blogs with another host and I have no issue with them, so it makes me wonder if there may be a problem on their end?
